Strategic Appointments

Political Control of Agencies, Boards, and Commissions

Chairs arranged around a meeting-room table.

Project overview

A collaborative project led by Dr. Carey Doberstein, with Katelynn Kowalchuk, examining when and where Canadian governments politicize appointments to arm’s-length public bodies. The project investigates how party turnover, policy priorities, and organizational type shape the balance between administrative autonomy and political control.
